As a Senior Account Executive in SYSCOM GLOBAL SOLUTIONS\u2019 San Jose office, Hiro\u2019s entire job revolves around hearing customers\u2019 issues and working with them to develop actionable plans to achieve their goals.<\/p>\n

Oh, and he\u2019s also ranked twelfth in all of Japan for CrossFit, a high-intensity fitness regimen with gyms and competitions around the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn both my work and CrossFit, I have to stay consistent and put in effort,\u201d says Hiro. \u201cSometimes I want to skip leg day or take the day off, but that can\u2019t happen.\u201d His fitness lifestyle has taught him a lot of lessons that he takes into his work: \u201cIt\u2019s all about setting a long-term goal and making sure you keep it in mind, regardless of good days or bad days.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”pb-80 padding-box padding-full-left”][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”13146″ img_size=”syscom_image_center” vc_none_hover_effect=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”pb-120 padding-box padding-full-left”][vc_column][vc_column_text]For Hiro, both work and fitness begin with being honest about where you are and where you want to go. \u201cThe most important value in my job is being empathetic. You need to do more than know the material,\u201d he says. \u201cYou have to get the customer to open up about their IT issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

He contrasts this approach with what he\u2019s seen elsewhere. \u201cSome people are solution-first and want to sell that to the customer, but it doesn\u2019t work. You need to understand their issue first,\u201d he explains. \u201cI want to know why that pain is in your work. What\u2019s the background of that?\u201d<\/p>\n

Starting from where the customer is, as they are, is crucial to being able to understand their issues. \u201cIf you can\u2019t stand in the customer\u2019s shoes, you can\u2019t help them with their problems.\u201d<\/p>\n

As an enthusiastic CrossFit athlete, Hiro has plenty of experience working on a team, too. Everyone on his squad excels in various areas, enabling the whole to progress further toward their goals. \u201cDuring team competitions, everyone has their own strong points and weak points. We help each other by filling in the gaps,\u201d says Hiro. \u201cMy work team is similar\u2014we all specialize in different areas. When working on a SYSCOM client, you\u2019re not just taking care of network. It\u2019s also security and the whole IT field. I\u2019m familiar with the network, but not something else. I always ask for help from others.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”pt-120 pb-120 padding-box padding-full-left gray-d0-bg”][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not just one issue; we try to figure out why you need to fix it.\u201d Hiro likes to go further. \u201cFigure out the deeper explanation. Educate the end user. It will make your work better\u2014and easier.\u201d<\/p>\n

From there, Hiro\u2019s next step is the same in work as it is in building a fitness routine. \u201cIt\u2019s important to have a long-term goal, but also to have an idea of how to get there.\u201d He has to know where he\u2019s going while also knowing where to step next. \u201cIt\u2019s a mix of long- and short-term.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”pb-80 padding-box padding-full-left”][vc_column width=”1\/2″ el_class=”first-column”][vc_single_image image=”13150″ img_size=”syscom_image_center” vc_none_hover_effect=””][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]At that point, it\u2019s all about continued commitment to the plan and showing up. It\u2019s far more important to keep going than it is to be perfect\u2014both in business and in fitness. \u201cI stick with a schedule. One day I might feel like doing my workouts, but others I may not.\u201d But Hiro presses one. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter. Stay consistent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Consistency isn\u2019t just personally and professionally important\u2014it\u2019s a significant part of SYSCOM\u2019s digital transformation strategy. We stress the importance of collecting data, automating it, visualizing it, then using it to make predictions, but that can\u2019t happen without everyday data collection. It\u2019s always better to get a full sampling of data over a long period of time than it is to get a \u201cperfect\u201d data set\u2014the value comes from being able to spot trends over time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s some overlap,\u201d says Hiro. \u201cIT helps people work efficiently. It\u2019s not just about opening an office or network. It\u2019s about whether the worker using the system can work efficiently.\u201d To help users use the system efficiently, Hiro stresses the importance of standardization. \u201cStandardization is key. There\u2019s a lot of variety to how people work. In order to keep their work quality up, our solutions need to be efficient and easy to understand.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”pb-120 padding-box padding-full-left”][vc_column][vc_column_text]He sees value in advancing Robotic Process Automation. \u201cThere are things you can automate and make standard. Workers in different markets have different levels of knowledge and education.\u201d Standardization is key, but so is taking as much low-value work out of their hands as possible. \u201cIt\u2019s hard to teach them the same way. If we installed RPA, we wouldn\u2019t need to.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the end, it all comes down to meeting the client where they are first, understanding their needs and why they aren\u2019t being filled, and moving forward from there.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t start with the solution.
